The Very Last Artwork of Claudia222 Jewell @ Madpea Base

I have written this text for the Madpea blog, but I think it has to be posted here too:

As you may have heard big changes are happening at MadPea. Sanity Falls, MadPea’s most famous hunt of all times with more than 3.000 players is ending June 30th. Starting with the 1st all Madpea sims will close for a major reconstruction. Kaaos, Reaction, Storybook and the store will be still accessible, just moved around. Show and Tell will pause for one week and then be held again regularly.  So, what will be come instead? MadPea head Kiana Writer has huge plans. Besides the construction of the biggest Madpea game ever, Madpea Base is going to have a complete new face. The MadPea team is more than happy, that Kiana Writer won Claudia222 Jewell for the central build.

Claudia222 Jewell
Claudia222 is one of the stars in the Second Life art scene, although she is relatively new as artist. When she joined Second Life about five years ago, she got a TP to a free sex sim before she even knew how to move in SL. She could not find an exit and logged out frustrated, thinking that this was SL. More than two years later she tried again to join SL after an invitation by friends who told hear about 3D building. This time she began to do that, what her main interest was and still is.

The statues of Claudia222 are very much different from those of other builders in SL. They look lively, organic, if not to say erotic. “Since childhood I loved to design and paint and anatomy always was my main interest.”, explains Claudia222. “I need them lively because the base of all life is organic. That’s why I always add moving parts to my statues.” Many of her statues are goddesses. Claudia:  “I am not related to any religion, I am referring with my works to prehistoric religions where the people believed in nature and sacrificial gifts to the gods to change the world.” Her latest work was her installation “Spirits”, homage to Hieronymus Bosch.  I f you haven’t seen yet, you should not miss it.

It was shock for us to hear that Claudia222 Jewell stops creating art in Second Life. Of course we asked for the reasons: “I am disappointed that mesh is no longer being developed in Second Life. All projects as normal map support and free bones have been stopped. I have to look out for other options to learn more about building. I will now concentrate on the creation of avatars. And yes, also in SL.”

Claudia placed yesterday her last and for sure creepiest artwork on Madpea base: Cthulhu and his helpers. It bases on the most popular short story "The call of Cthulhu" by H.P. Lovecraft. The story caused a complete mythos. Millions of years a go he came to earth with his entourage Cthulhu is described as being "...an octopus, a dragon, and a human caricature.... The imprisoned Cthulhu is apparently the source of constant anxiety for mankind at subconscious level, and also the subject of worship by a number of religions. The short story asserts the premise that, while currently trapped, the Cthulhu will eventually return...

Now he returned to Second Life and we look forward to a horrible, creepy and spooky MadPea sim!

Come and see before the sim closes on Sunday:  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/MadPea%20Base/26/50/24

My Home is my Castle

In Pirats SAS Art Gallery opened yesterday a new exhibition. I liked the works of Luciella Lutrova, Cayenne Avon…

…and Trill Zapatero. Those of you who haven’t seen yet her work at Split Screen should hurry. It closes the next days. And as always I also recommend visiting her Afghanistan Museum, where many of the objects, which are to be seen in her displayed works, found their home.

And home is my keyword today. Nino Vichan’s “Homeless” is a must see. His portraits of homeless people are of a special intensity. In combination with photos and facts it is an intriguing installation. Bravo Nino, excellent work!

In his note card he asked how we feel to be homeless in SL. I was only very short periods homeless and I felt very uncomfortable, although we have here our stuff in the inventory. It is not about that. It is about having a place to belong to, to feel save, private and comfortable. Homeless people in RL are often victims of violence, not to talk about the health issues due to lack of medical care and protection from weather fluctuations.

I found especially the fact shocking that in the last years more and more families are losing their home. We all know why. Our governements are too busy to help the rich not to lose money.

Do you know that homelessness did not exist in the GDR? Before you allow your brain to be flooded with all the bad things you heard about communism you should accept the fact, that homelessness is a result of political decisions!

The Godesses came down to Earth...oh no SL

Slightly Twisted has reopened again and as always Katz Jupiter has done a full sim installation which is worth seeing. She invited the participating artists to contribute a goddess from different religions and Asmita Duranjaya, Fuschia Nightfire, Lilia Artis, Louly Loon and Trill Zapetaro and of course Katz Jupiter are presenting goddesses from cultures all over the world. The work is referring to "The Dinner Party" by Judy Chicago.

The goddesses Mahuika(Asmita), Yemanja (Louly), Sedna (Lilia), Boddhisattva of Willendorf (Trill), Ariadne (Fuschia) and Awehai (Katz)  find themselves in a world of destruction and pollution.

Katz comments: “Additionally, these goddesses in their respective cultures of origin, have been charged as 'keepers' of that they have created; some created the world, others give life to animals and plants, still other protect elements the world depends on.   All of these elements are currently at risk due to the ravenous appetite for consumption humans possess that has resulted in the ongoing destruction of habitats that give them life.  We live as if our resources are without limits, we take without consideration to the consequence, yet, we continue to consume as if starved. “

Katz’ approach in this installation is to show the relation between pollution and treatment of women, which is proved by worldwide science research.

You can walk around on the sim or use the LM provided by the flag at the landing point.

Santa Fe New Media Festival: Haveit's Monastery

currents 2012, the Santa Fe International New Media Festival will be held from tomorrow, June 22. to July 8. under the participation of 4 Second Life artists: Bryn Oh, Haveit Neox, Tyrehl Byk and Artistide Després. Artée's work I already covered in this blog post. The contribution of Haveit Neox, "Stirring the Dreams" is finished and here is a sneak preview:

I landed literally in the spotlight and started under water my long way though the incredibly huge work. Make sure that local sounds are on. Haveit has surpassed himself again with his obviously immense desire to build. Walking around there, I sat all the time shaking my head in front of my computer. How can one only build so incredibly large and detailed?

On my way again and again little scenes draw me into the spell. Here a poem by Lilia Artis:

Despite not all scens exposed their meaning immediately to me, I found myself in a kind of universal monastery. Everywhere there are figures on the road - apparently on the lookout

The path is winded, diverted and there are many different goals at the end. I see worship, prayers, mediation circles and a kind of paradise. I was especially inspired by the cloud chessboard high above. That was the spot where I felt to be at the right place.

Haveit Neox  has incorporated images and lyrics of other artists, which increases the magic of the work even more. I think this grandiose installation is not completely covered with only one visit and I will certainly go there more often. I do not know if I've seen it all, it's just an incredible amount. Haveit published in his blog cards ofthe build that you can use as a guide. And you will there also find a list of all participating artists.

This installation is just brilliant and another worthy contribution of the SL artists for currents 2012!

SL9B - 3rd Post With More Great Places

One day after the Grand Opening I am really impressed what has been realized by organisation team in the short time. An of course without the sponsors nothing could be done. Thanks to Dream Seeker Estates, KittyCatS!, Fruit Islands. And here is the schedule for the events. Lots of music and fun!

I found some places more I want to talk about:

Seven builds inspired by the short story 'The Masque of the red Death' by E.A. Poe. It is built by Lux Ashdene, Miss euro chau, Ohmy Shalala, Treacle, Taubchen Sonnenkern and Veleda Lorakeet. Get your free Prince Prospero avatar and the entrance and enjoy.

A great Roller Coaster:

Takni Miklos + Apollosmile: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Jamboree/179/31/21

The scripter of the Roller Coaster, Takni Miklos did another work: a planetarium. It shows where the sun, moon and stars are now, as seen from any place in earth.

Here is the user manual:

How to use:
    * Sit on the globe. Your avatar will face East (unless you are sitting on the poles, of course -- when you sit on the north pole you are always facing south whichever way you look.).
    * Click the place in the globe where you would like to look at the sky from. That place will go up and the sky will turn to show if you can see the sun and moon.
    * Click the sky to see the name of a constellation or star near the point you click.

SL9B - Sneak Preview 1

Luckily the 9th birthday of Second Life, SL9B, has been last minute organised by a group of residents. And they have done a great job in only 8 weeks. Tomorrow open 20 sims full of fun. I saw so many highlights, that I will post in several parts. So lets start:

Birthday cake with candles

Mikati Slade designed the central stage at the corner of 4 sims in shape of a 9-cornered birtday cake. And that was a real challenge as she told me. She showed me her building platform where she created the model. To transfer the construction to the 4 sim corners she needed a script for perfect placement.

For the other works I saw, you will get just a short hint and a landmark:

A coloured Burj al Arab with rocket inside. Try it!
