The Miniature Goal at Art India and other Machinima

Erythro Asimov brought back great memories of Art India Gallery. The last large exhibition has been "The Miniature Goal" by Haveit Neox and Erythro spent many hours to film it.

After the sudden and unexpected removal of the build by the new sim owner I had no hope that Erythro could finish the machinima, but he did. The machinima maker play an important role in the preservation of artworks. But Erythro of course goes further. He added real life captures from the oil place at Old Baku.  Haveit Neox commented on his piece: "Our disproportionate appetite for resources makes it clear that our progress, and therefore our goal, will succumb to a miniature plan. We will eventually come to realize that the planet's current ecosystems are being damaged to a point where we may not be able to save them. Where does that leave us when we become so small?" Erythro adds: History gives us the answer : War"

A masterpiece on a masterpiece!
Thank you, Erythro Asimov!

Let me take the chance to present some machinima, that caught my eyes:

This science fiction story is the last part of a series and you might not be able to follow the storyline completely. But it is so well done, that you should not miss it!

Here are the links to the previous parts:
Time Travelers Episode 1 - The Time Machine
Time Travelers Episode 2 - The Future Will See You Now
Time Travelers Episode 3 - Frontlines of Tomorrow
Time Travelers Episode 4 - The Pattern
Time Travelers Episode 5 - Quantum Entangled

Maylee Oh does not only create cute fashion for her shop "The Secret Store", she proved recently that entertaining commercials can be filmed in Second Life:

And finally a beautiful short machinima filmed in the beautiful region Wetland:

The Path of the Hero

The most amazing with virtual art ist that the visitor does not only watch art, he can become part of the art, can be immersed. In Alpha Auer's latest installation, created in collaboration with Mimesis Monday we follow the path of a hero.

The heroes in all myths and fairytales all over the world are experiencing more or less the same adventure. Joseph Campbell collected myths, found out the common structure behind them and published 1949 in his book "The Hero with a Thousand Faces".

Alpha Auer and Mimesis Monday have chosen as example the Tale of Volund and created 12 stages of the typical storyline and makes the visitor he hero. By following the stages the visitor is finding parts of an avatar and animations. Each of the 12 stages offers a gift and gives a part of the story.

The great experience of this beautiful installation is the way how the parts of the avatar, the animations and the animations in the build encourage to create the own story. During my several visits I saw visitors trying out several combinations of the parts of the avatar with different animations.

This installation is not only a great outcome of creativity, it encourages to become creative too.
Not to be missed!

Never Run In The Rain With Your Socks On

Miuccia watching the Golem, a custom work by Ub Yifu

In the 2nd edition of the UpToDate magazine, where I contributed 2 articles too, is a great interview with Jaynine Scarborough. If you happen to understand German, you should read it. Beside the talk about music she said that all RL meetings with people from Second Life where very positive, because we know friends here from inside out. It is just another skin. And maybe we wear less masks when we are as we want to be.

This came in my mind when I visited the new build by Squonk Levenque and Miuccia Klaar. we became immediate friends when we met first at the sim Treptower Park. I also loved the Broken Heart. The last build before Squonk took a break from SL, was the darkest ever and made me thinking in this post:  http://quanlavender.blogspot.de/2013/03/more-drama-please.html

I met Miuccia at the new sim H22O after she passed me the LM and asked her, how it comes that I make friends with people because they build dark, sad and rotten places. She said exactly that fascinated her with Squonk too. This build again is intriguing and inspiring to have a closer look on our darker sides which we usually like to oversee.

Be prepared for some lag caused by heavy rain. An umbrella is provided!

KueperPunk Korhonen Reading at LEA17 Today

Kueperpunk Korhonen is one of the leading Science Fiction writers in Germany and today is one of the rare occasions to hear him reading one of his novels in English.

The event is a collaboration with a musical performance by Automatic Quandry aka Robert Keller who is the front man for The Hodges, a California based rock/pop/indie band.

ABOUT "RECONSTRUCTOR"

"Combining their unique literary and musical talents, Kueperpunk Korhonen and Automatic Quandry deliver an immersive storytelling performance that captivates and mesmerizes audiences.

"Reconstructor" takes place in a not so distant future where the concept of one's identity becomes intertwined with the value of one's memories -- memories that a person may elect to have altered or wiped altogether, including those of family, friends, lovers and others who may be reluctant to be forgotten."

The time of performance it quite tough for Europeans, 5 PM is 2 AM in Germany. So don't be surprised when not many of us will be around. But I know the performance and really can recommend the event!

Today at 5 PM SLT!

Art at Fantasy Faire

Two years ago I wrote during the Fantasy Faire that I often do not see the differences between artists and designers. The creativity is the same and the building skills are often stronger on the side of designers. But luckily artists do see that too and take their part to this great event too. Since the Fantasy Faire is so huge I added the landmark to every sim that you easier find the shops.

Haveit Neox

Haveit Neos is known for many exhibitions in SL, currently you find "The Six Sides of a Dice" and I know that he is working on new projects. It is already 2 years ago I blogged his home ASS Alpha which changed a lot since then and is greater than ever. This interesting build with tadpoles that turn to warriors is to be found at Palace of tears which hosts a hunt during the event starting after this weekend.

Alpha Auer

Dragon avatar by Alpha Tribe @ Fantasy Faire

The avatars of the RL/SL artist are always going beyond that what is possible in real life, which makes them so fascinating. Alpha took part of many extraordinary exhibitions and her home sim alpha tribe is an artwork itself.

RFL Vector Tribe avatar by Alpha Tribe @ Fantasy Faire

CHAINED HORNS - BLACK+ NEW SUN EARRINGS PURPLE + TRIBALIEN TATTOO  FULL  by LaNoir Soleil Designs @ Fantasy Faire, Hope Skin Light Violet by Niekra's Dreams @ Fantasy Faire, Hair Shelly by EMO-tions

Cutea Benelli

RFL purple dotties dress + RFL fleur stompers + RFL tophat magic purple by Grim Bros for Fantasy Faire
Hair Sayaka2 by D!va
The Petrowky Flux at Spencer Art Museum built by Blotto Epsilon and Cutea Benelli is regarded as one the most important art installations in second Life. And for sure it is one of the funniest too. But I also like to stroll through Cutea's shop Grim Bros. which is full of crazy ideas. This year for RFL she turned a few of her bestsellers to purple as you can see on my photos.

Elicio Ember

RFL Tinderling Avatar by Cerridwens Cauldreon for Fantasy Faire
Elicio Ember is painter in RL and his home sim Cerridwen's Cauldron ist a wonderful place to explore. I blogged the place here and here. For the Fantasy Faire Elicio built the sim The Fairy Court. The RFL item is a purple version oh the Tinderling avatar. The Tinderling is a creature of the woods, consisting of dead wood and mushrooms. It come in a normal and tiny version and the best of it is the HUD with countless possibilities of sounds, particles, lighting ans colours. I especially fell in love with the nature sounds the Tindering is causing with the movements and the mushrooms growing under every step. Super cute!

There are countless more creations to be considered at the Fantasy Faire. I will try to cover some more the next days, but you should not miss it. I blogged the sims here:  http://quanlavender.blogspot.de/2014/05/fantasy-faire-2014-in-second-life.html

UpToDate 2nd Issue is Out

The German speaking magazine came out yesterday and I contributed an interview with SL artist Sina Souza and an article about the work of Zauselina Rieko and Kueperpunk Korhonen for author's readings in Second Life. If you happen to understand German you should read the many interesting articles.

Fantasy Faire 2014 in Second Life

There are many great events in SL, but the Fantasy Faire is for me always the highlight of the year. No other event celebrates that much the fantasy and diversity that is only possible in a virtual world. Luckily I was again accepted as blogger and had the chance to take these photos lag free today.
This is the list of sim designers, which all made a great job: http://fantasyfairesl.wordpress.com/designers/
Since 9 AM the FF is open and these photos should convince you that it is again worth to be visited. The shops offer a wide range of items for all kinds of role play. For every sim I added a link to a map and vendor list and the landmark. Enjoy!

Gallery Hopping

Rose Gallery

This gallery has always a lot of interesting exhibitions. "American Signs" is a tribute to American roadside architecture with the typical neon signs. Melusina Parkin has the analytic eye to reduce the things she is seeing to the essentials.

Aakriti Arts

Vaiuna - Imaginay Works

Aakriti Arts is showing four new interesting exhibitions by Artare, Asmita Duranjaya, Ginger Lorakeet  and Vaiuna. Vaiuna's style is a bit comic-alike and funny. I found the works very sweet. And of course you still find there the current LTD collection as well as Ranadeep's works.

Last Chance: The Viewing Room

Whiskey Monday caught with her images a fast growing group of admirers. She dealt openly with her many hassles in real life which made her works do authentic. I think no other artist presented herself that vulnerable. After the success of her blog she started to exhibit in Second Life too. She suddenly stopped creating 5 months ago due to depressions as she wrote in her blog: http://whiskeymonday.com/

Her friends decided to take her gallery down and this is the last chance for you to see the works inworld until she decides to come back.

Exhibtion in Real Life and Second Life - THE REAL AVANT GARDE IS HERE!

One of the visitors gifts: Announcer Avatar

Most of the readers will already know: Today opens in Second Life an important Multimedia exhibition-installation about the Russian Avant Garde, created in Real Life by Peter Greenaway and Saskia Boddeke (Rose Borchovski in Second Life), curated by Olga Shishko and Elena Rumyantseva. The center part of the exhibition with more than 400 pieces is  a multiple screen show around the most influential artists like Kazimir MalevichVladimir TatlinWassily Kandinsky, Alexander Rodtschenko, Wladimir Majakowski, Ljubow Popowa, Wsewolod Meyerhold, Pavel FilonovEl Lissitzky and Vera Yermolayeva. The artists are represented with quotes performed by 18 actors. The installation opened in the Manege in Moscow on April 14th. See here a teaser:

The event is running until May 26th and is accompanied by several events around the history of Russian Avant garde. More here: http://ukrussia2014.ru/en/event/golden-age-russian-avant-garde/
As far as got from the Russian media coverage (badly translated by Google) the multimedia show is an intriguing introduction to the artists of the short art period between 1910 and 1930. But it is an artistic interpretation, not a scientific documentation. The educational part is covered by the related events to the exhibition. I think that is really needed. I still ask myself why some of the most important artistic movements at the beginning of the last century, Futurism, Bauhaus and Avant Garde ended in totalitarianism and if and how it played a role in the progress. But maybe we will have the chance to see the exhibition in other parts of the world too as I could read some guesses that the show has good chances to go on tour, for example to London. Sadly I could not find a single word about the installation part in Second Life, which is to me most interesting and the real life visitors can walk in Second Life with given avatars:

Second Life installation on real life screens in Moscow as part of the installation

The Second Life artists Bryn Oh, Alpha Auer, Nessuno Myoo, Jo Ellsmere , Caer Balogh , Soror Nishi and Eupalinos Ugajin built the virtual part. You should not miss the fascinating works. I will not cover the details. You find them in the post I did yesterday for the LEA blog here:

 http://lindenarts.blogspot.de/2014/04/opening-tomorrow-golden-age-of-russian.html

The excellent text has been written by Bryn Oh and Alpha Auer and also the photos for that post has been taken by the artists. You should read it to know more about the works.

Let me just add some comments. First of all Bryn Oh deserves appreciation. Since January she worked countless hours at LEA8 to create the structure for the works and if you do not know that it is made by her, you would not see on first glance. Bryn, as all other artists, did an excellent job to make Avant Garde possible in 3D and to match the style as much as possible.

And secondly Alpha Auer should be emphasised who created a huge choice of avatars for the visitors. And if you wear one of Alpha's avatars that she gives as free gifts you ARE, you FEEL Avant Garde. This kind of immersion a real life exhibition never can give. Bryn for example built a tower that never has been realised in real life. That is the magic of a virtual world where everything is possible! In real life the visitors pay 350 Rubel entrance fee and in Second Life it is not only free, they are getting artworks as gifts too.

Peter Greenaway said at the press conference that this exhibition is an appreciation of the Avant Garde in a contemporary style. I am sure that most understood him talking about the Multimedia Installation and forgot that this style of art presentation is at least 50 years old.

The Avant Garde is here - here in Second Life!

For those who are not familiar with French: avant garde means vanguard. Virtual art and presentation is vanguard. And as always the audience does not take note of it. In hundred years there will come up an exhibition about the pioneers of virtual art. And the audience will shake the heads about the people at that time who could have enjoyed Virtual Art conveniently from home but missed it.

Here a machinima of the installation, taken by Sophia Yates:

Opening today, Sunday April 27th at 1 PM SLT!
