Dr. Moreau Underwater

"I created a Dr.Moreau novel underwater." That was the statement of Fantasy and Science Fiction lover Nexuno Thespian to the monthly full sim exhibition, that opens today.

The scenes are full of magic and beauty. I often was amazed by the harmony of colours and honestly, my photos do not match by far the installation.

I had the feeling, I walk through paintings in 3D. Nexuno told me that this work is much closer to his RL paintings than his previous builds. Much to explore and to enjoy. H.G. Wells would love it and you should not miss.

OPENING today, Friday 8th February 2013 @ 1.30PM SLT,

50 Years The Beatles - Part Two

Simba Schumann has chosen her own Fab Four to celebrate the Beatles at Arte Libera. After Giovanna Cerise and Solkide Auer open today and exhibtion with Daco Monday and Pol Jarvinen.

By Pol Jarvinen

From the invitation:
"Yesterday... all my troubles are so far away.." it seems yesterday but the start up of this legendary group, The Beatles, was 50 years ago. Their music was the soundtrack of entire generations and even today we keep listening and enjoying evergreen melodies as "Yesterday", "Michelle" or "Let it be".

Based on an idea by Helenita Arriaga, Arte Libera is proud to invite you to celebrate this important anniversary with an artistic tribute to the mythic Fab Four by fab four Metaverse's artists : Giovanna Cerise, Solkide Auer, Daco Monday e Pol Jarvinen. In a two-step presentation, they show their installations inspired by Beatles' s songs, while Helenita enriches this journey with infos and curiosities."

by Daco Monday
Pol Jarvinen invited me today to have a sneak previev. He has chosen the song 'Because'. He gave me the link to his favourite version.

Because the world is round it turns me on
Because the world is round...aaaaaahhhhhh

Because the wind is high it blows my mind
Because the wind is high...aaaaaaaahhhh

Love is old, love is new
Love is all, love is you

Because the sky is blue, it makes me cry
Because the sky is blue...aaaaaaahhhh

So, our talk was around love, tears and youth:

Quan Lavender: and because of love, the world cries blood tears?
Pol Jarvinen: yes it a great song; it makes me cry maybe blood tears
Quan Lavender: love or the song? ;)
Pol Jarvinen: ))both
Pol Jarvinen: i tried to illustrate the song very simply
Quan Lavender: I love the rainbow, it gives hope :)
Pol Jarvinen: love is all
Quan Lavender: ah no, overvalued or better said, it is our choice to love. If we do without expectations all is fine.
Pol Jarvinen: i mean love is universal...evrywhere even if hidden sometimes
Quan Lavender: the trouble comes with the addiction, greediness and expectations
Pol Jarvinen: people often dont dare to love
Quan Lavender: but what is the benefit of not daring? ok, you don't risk pain but for sure you miss fun
Pol Jarvinen: some are very shy
Quan Lavender: that is stupid, especially in our age
Pol Jarvinen: yes i agree
Quan Lavender: but your work reminds to our youth and there we often do not dare and are too shy
Pol Jarvinen: beatles are our youth
Pol Jarvinen: maybe youngers wont understand it
Quan Lavender: yes, because maybe they don't sat with friends in front of the disc player with all the hopes and wishes
Pol Jarvinen: and we listened disk till they were in a bad state.  I put a sign on the disk recorder for the young fellows

Quan Lavender: hahaha
Pol Jarvinen: The Beatles are part of our life. I was really moved when Lennon died
Quan Lavender: I hated Yoko Ono at this time
Pol Jarvinen: yes we all did
Quan Lavender: I think the people will love your installation
Pol Jarvinen: old people? haha
Quan Lavender: would you mind, if I take a part of our dialogue for a blog post?  I think most are in our age and would find it funny
Pol Jarvinen: no problem
Quan Lavender: Not that you pretend you are 30 when you meet a girl :P. Then I ruin your image.
Pol Jarvinen: haha, I never pretended that
Quan Lavender: No need, just women get old. Men are even more interesting
Pol Jarvinen: its an interesting quote  ))
Quan Lavender: We say that in Germany. It's meant ironic.
Pol Jarvinen: nice
Quan Lavender: NICE???

Upside Down

Do you remember what you asked as child, when you realized that the world is a sphere? "How can the people at the other side of the world walk upside down?"

In SL you can check how it feels to walk upside down. in Citysphere it is possible with a walking animation. you can click the street anywhere and jump on the cube that appears.

But this walking upside down made me dizzy and loosing orientation. Sorry, that the photos went a bit unsharp ;)

Opening Today: ART DECO

Many know Melusina Parkin as a photographer with a unique style of simplifying and clarity. Less know that she creates already for years Art Deco furniture as owner of Melu Deco. Art India Gallery took the chance to combine her passion for the era with photography. The result is 'ART DECO'.

She created a spacious environment in Art Deco style for her latest photo exhibition. Unlike other exhibitions the interior is part of the installation and available too. The furniture are her latest releases in low prim mesh. To complete the show, information boards about the different styles of Art Deco around the world and other interesting facts will be placed in a skybox:

The boards give an overview over the history of Art Deco. Plus you get note cards with and article written by Melusina Parkin and landmarks to interesting Art Deco places in Second Life. Find the TP at the landing spot in the exhibition.

If you want to know more about the creator and artists Melusina Parkin, please read the great blog post by Inara Pey.

Her cool Art Deco Lounge will host some events, as a fashion show by Sonatta Morales, talks about this special era and Flapper parties.

OPENING will be today, Saturday at 2 PM SLT with a Flapper Party.

Taxi: sadly gone

Sneak Preview: Yooma Mayo and Pixels Sideways

Today is a busy day, not only for me. besides the opening of the LEA Festival, Split Screen reopens with 2 artists, that should not be missed and Art India Gallery, curated by me, opens today a new exhibition  but I come to that in a later post.

Dividni Shostakovich is one of the best curators in SL, His exhibitions are always a must:

PIXELS SIDEWAYS: "Afterlife"

I had a brief look at her installation an was a-maze-d by the variety of her works. You will understand what I mean.

Pixels was busy cleaning up when I caught her ;)
From her note card: "Calling this exhibition Afterlife solved the issue of coming up with a catchy and pretentiously apropos artsy name.  :-)
The concept behind Afterlife continues to shift and change, in much the same way each individual interprets the meaning of "afterlife" in their own context of existence.
My context of Afterlife is all over the map...
...and open for interpretation.
More specifically, Afterlife is a journey through my imagination which is in a constant state of loco-motion."

Many works are interactive and have sounds. Have you sound on and play around!

YOOMA MAYO: "Yes, Giovanni"

To be honest, I did not get the title. But never mind, the works are amazing as always.

Maybe you have a chance to find out for yourself at the OPENING today at 3 PM SLT with DJ  Isabelle Mavendorf.

Gallery Hopping: Fractals and more

Gem Preiz: Temples

It is a while now that  first met Gem Preiz. He told me that he works with Fractals and each time I saw his images, they have been better and better. But what he presents now is that outstanding, that one hardly can believe to see fractals. Plus, the "Temples" are presented in a way, that one could call staged and gives the works the desired room to shine. Excellent in every perspective!

I am in Love: MEDIAMORPHOSIS

Even if I have seen many brilliant outcomes of creativity in SL, there are still a lot of moments that make me a goose skin. Visiting MEDIAMORPHOSIS definitely was one of them.

Thoth Jantzen created a space with intriguing sounds and optical effects, which are to be explored in different ways. After walking the tunnel (make sure to have media enabled, draw distance on more than 250 and sun at Midnight), you land in a familiar looking Hopper rebuilt, but... it is not just a bar. It is a wormhole to another dimension.

My recommendation is to use first the TP system to visit the different builds, walking through them to enjoy the immersion by the optical effects. I saw contributions by different artists and subject to change as I found in the note card. The sounds are simply wonderful with the images.

Then it is time for a drink at the bar in Hopper build (find out how to get in). Have seat at the bar and hit twice the ESC button. How did Confucius say? "The superior man sees without looking out of the window and travels without stepping out of the door."

You will love it too!

Leonard Cohen in Images

Leonard Cohen's songs and lyrics are real classics. More than 20 Sl artists transferred them to images. In the installation you find at the side of each works the lyrics that inspired the artist.

Besides one of the owner and curator Morgana Nagorski, you can find works by Aelin Quan, Acacia Merlin, Amona Savira, Burk Bode, Callipygian Christensen, Cat Boccacio, Corinne Helendale, Dantelicia Ethaniel, Dixmix Source, Harbor Galaxy, Jessica Belme, Kato Salyut, Kira Westland, Lily Laufer, Maloe Vansant, Meilo Minotau, Petra Messioptra, Ronda Saunders, Sare Ethaniel, and Skip Stahel.

Two openings at Saturday, January 26, 6-8 PM SLT + Sunday, January 27, 10-12 PM SLT

Immersion in Sounds: Topophonia

Four artists, Oberon Onmura, Eupalinos Ugajin, Maya Paris and Alpha Auer created installations with sounds.

Oberon about the project: "My idea for this residency was to ask 3 fellow artists each to create an artwork all using the same concept. I would also create my own version. (Although, my version shouldn't be thought of as 'definitive'.) The concept is simple: use **sounds only** to guide an avatar around a build. I asked them to avoid providing visual cues for avatars to use in reaching whatever kind of goals the artists envisioned.

You will find four completely different pieces, four totally different visions of what that initial concept suggested. To me, the fact that our four versions are so different is tremendously exciting. It is further proof that the artist's mind is unlimited in its ability to make sense of the world, and to convey that sense to others.

Please be sure to visit all four installations. You will find TP kiosks on each level, and on the ground if you should somehow end up there. Have fun!"

Let me add that Maya provides a crazy fun outfit and Alpha a beautiful avatar with male and female skin, which I pimped a  bit. Not alone with those, with all installations I had lots of fun. The sounds urged me to explore a bit slower as usual. Especialyl Oberon's work drove me mad at the beginning until I checked how to get through. Brilliant! You should not miss!

Meet the artists today. Sunday at 1 PM SLT!

Sneak Preview: SkyDance V

The Sky Dancers have a long history in Second Life. Founded in 2006, the shows of the team around Dancoyote Antonelli has been supported over the years by contributions of many well known artists in SL.

“Sky Dance V – Innocence End” is completely new designed and different from any other show in Second Life. The dancers wear huge attachments, which make them look like huge butterflies to me. I had the chance to see the last  rehearsal and have been really amazed. The choreography is not animated. All has been worked out in countless hours of rehearsal.

The show is narrative under the participation of the audience which determines the outcome of the storyline. In many ways it is unlike all others shows I ever have seen in SL and really recommend visiting it.

Shows will be each Wednesday at 7 PM SLT starting from January 30.
Seats are strictly limited to reduce lag. Please contact SkyBank Alter or Unbelievable Destiny for reservation!

Do not miss it!
