Some of you willalready know this work. Unfortunately it wasnot long inworld and I am glad that it is backnow. Bryn Oh has changed the build partly to make it even moreadventurous.

The way leads you to dangerous stairsand through a kind of labyrinth ofrooms. On the way you are told in melancholy colorsand soft sounds a really nasty story. The dreamy,shy Anna has a huge dark side. Be prepared for many corpses.

Eupalino's 'Concrete Kite' or Loopsided

Eupalinos Ugajin’s latest workbrought me today into a badconscience.

The new installation “Concrete Kite opens today and I went there for a sneakpreview. It looks very nice at the first glance. Eupalinoscomments in his note card: „Afterhours of meditation I tried some action painting by throwing water (水) on virtual concrete. I invite you to discover the results.” Well, the results have not really convinced me. ;)

Even more interesting are the installations. Many nicedetails, especially the "Capture Table," is great.It shows a solareclipse. Eupalinos gave me the link to the original image. Cool, a solar eclipse of 1900!

Wander Off The Point With Simotron

The last work of Simotron Aquila I wrote about was aboutmoving. Now she is gone one step furtherand shows in "Wandering off the point" the mobilityin a modern city. From the landing point you cansee how even the lamps are moving.In the central building there is a TP to theupper town.

Everything here seems to be in motionand constant change. And so much lights here. They are also a symbol forthe continuous control system in thesociety. The businessmen as sharks made me smile!

And it would not be Simotronif there were not some funny interactivedetails too: I liked especially the self walking pathways and the way to the subway. Just follow the blue arrows.

Simotron advises toset the viewer at midnight and to enable shadows. If the graphics card allows, you should do so. You can see on myphotos that thisis worth it.

The greatinstallation will only be open until March 15. Do not miss it!

The Living Storybook

Aschild, did you also love it so much when someone was reading out for you? Grown up, we unfortunatelyrarely get it. That's why I was so happy when I found the Storybook. It is a large open book. You get a HUD by click on the sign in front. Onceworn to you can choose between twostories. I choose first for “KALEVALA - THE WORLD'S CREATION ANDTHE BIRTH OF WAINAMOINEN, click onstart and ...

Oooooh ... howenchanting. A scene is built up in 3dabove the page of the book. I see a house in the snow and a man, clothed thick and warm, approaching it. And nowstarts a sympathetic voice to tell the firstchapter.

Listen closely; thenarrator is the boss of MadPea, the FinnishKiana Writer. Veryfitting to thebeautiful Finnish legend which tellshow the world was created. Kalevala has 7 chapters. Madcow Cosmosconstructed scenes that arise as soon as youopen a new chapter. I felt in love with the nice sceneries.

The second story, "URASHIMA TARO" is a alsomyth which takes us to Japan.Narrator this time is Cliquot Oh. The9 chapters are beautifullydesigned. They tell of a good person who wins bysaving a turtle but loses everything and in the end. Pretty and sad!

If you preferto read rather than listen, you also get the chapterwritten in the HUD. But I personally use the cam not to miss any single detail while listening the narrator.

More than once I had discussions withartists, who see themselves independent of trends. To my opinion not even a hermit could be.

Trends are not made, but arean evolutionary process. This leadsthen to the fact that suddenly arise independentlythings at the same time that show certainsimilarities.

Such a trendis currently monochrome.The CAFÉ WB is a goodexample. The landing area has a black backgroundand when you landby the TP at the Cafe it is white.

Mytravels through the LEA simstook me several time to LEA 11 with it’s beautiful marine scenery. After closer inspectionI saw that there is built a largeunderwater world with a Hunt.

And that really pays off. I got great freebies, almost all items of the place are given randomly. I liked the pirate costume with wooden legso much that I wore it for a carnival event. At my last visit I met thebuilder Aley. A curious lookat her profile showed me that the well known Arcadia Asylum is behind this avatar.Her freebies even have a museum in SL. She gave methis sweet Mer Bunny, which she had just finished. It is soo cute! And if you are jealous now as I would be and wish to have it too, IM me. It is a freebie.

A friend saw me inthis costume and he took me toone of the best pirate Sims, I have seen in SLso far. The Fair Winds consists of 12 Homesteads, which are all connected by water.

There are almost daily sea battles. Each owner ofthe homesteads leave for that purpose 1200to 1500 prims free. The sims are 17. Centurythemed. Visitors are welcome to participate the role play and can use boats totravel around.

The Art of Architecture in SL

It's always amazing to see what the artists are creating on the LEA sims, This one is created by a group of artists on the subject of architecture. There was not yet an official opening, so I do not know if the works are ready. But they are already definitely worth a visit! The project bases on the book 'The Invisible Cities' by Italo Calvino. In the story of the book Marco Polo tells Kublai Khan about his travels and describes 55 cities. I don't know the book, but that sounds really intreresting!

On the basic level, we see the beautiful fairy tale but also a bit morbid work of Cherry Manga. Have close look at the objects, a number of them teleport to the other layers. These are the doors to the other cities. Four teams have chosen a city, built it and are creating a machinima to tell the story of the city.

Spiders and a Gecko

Ants and a Gecko

A shopping tour yesterday went unexpected. I am now a gecko andproud member of the "Society of the G.E.C.K.O". The bow and tutu are my addings :)

Afterthat I was hungry, but in the inrefrigerator was nothing suitablefor a gecko. A friend told methat there is an Ant Islandin SL. That sounded good! But unfortunately ..... lookfor yourself:

I was rather in danger of being eaten by the giant ants. But the scenery is really nice. It gives a bit the feeling of standing on the Mars.

I especially love the St"ant"ue of Liberty . Cymbal Constantine and Merillion Vyperhave built thisgreat sim. Merillion told me that both continueto build and will still change in the near future.

Dreams of the Childhood

In the note card about his installation at LEA RAG Randt tells that hisniece was theinspiration, as she expressed herenjoyment of a piece of chocolatecake, "Am I dreaming?"

He created a nice a story of a childhood’s dreams and fears. You fly asan eagle and with a rocket,you visit a circus, but you also have to go to school and to face monsters. I especially like the chocolatecake, which I had to taste.

Sneak Preview: Claudia and the Productivity of Emotions

The whole afternoon I've spent todaytogether with Claudia222Jewell on the simArt Screamer in her new work "Spirit". First I had to click on theplant in front of the board at the landing point and wear the avatar. Oh my God, I'm a magical fairy. Ithink that's the most beautiful mesh avatar I have everseen.

And nowI belong to thisstrange world. It's a little dark,but with warm colors (WLCoastal Sunset). So many formsand structures, I feel overwhelmed. Strangecreatures hover around. Completely unknown plants grow there.

In the sky are floating islands that look like jellyfish. Flying into them exposes many nice details.

A scene draws me intothe spell: Over thehead of a man hovers an equal, but transparent. Somehow,everything on the sim is focused on this.

Claudia tells me that not long ago her father passed away after short, but serious illness.That was the catalyst for this work. And she did it the hard way. Themore I look around, the more I am touched to see how deep Claudia has dealtwith interpersonal relationships and the loss of loved ones. Something that is an inevitablypart of our lifes, but yet sodifficult to accept. Even here in SL we lose friends to rl. They always leave a hurting gap.

I like it when sims are designed a bitmagical and surreal. This one is wonderful. Bubblez has beenredesigned recently and is really nice, especiallybecause of the windlight settings.

The huge dragon has in his moutha red envelope. Click it and you geta gift: Two outfits, each one formen and women anda pose. Here I amwearing this great dress:

The shop also has great group gifts. In particular, I was delighted with the beautiful flowers.The gifts came ina box and luckily I was able to rez. Thatis really visitor-friendly. And as you can see itis possible without arising chaos. Great!

I Choose - Is this the End?

Dear blog readers,

This will probably be my last blog entry. Not that Iwanted to leave SL. Oh no! But a series of unfortunate circumstances led me to the new LEAFull Sim ArtSeries by Romy Nayar and Ux Hax "You Choose". The reception was friendly. Ux and Romy looked great andI got a similar avatar to wear. Beautiful textures, great scenery here:I was thrilled. NowI should climb a lift and they left mealone. The way was upa kind of scaffolding. I saw creatures thatlooked like me. The higher Igot, the more wobbly and dangerous it was.

But then Ireached a room with TP which either ended in a dead end or brought me back to this room.


I learned to hate the word choose

Fortunately, there are some beds, so I could getsome sleep. But I have nothing to eat or drinkhere and I will probablynever find out.

..but I could get some sleep

At least I learned something. I had the choiceagain and again. Sometimes it did not matter what Ichose, the result was thesame. But sometimes I was able to influence the outcome. I also met some friends. That was nice. They motivated meto move on and we helped each other on the way. But whatever I do,I cannot get out of the rat race.

Farewell! I loved to be in SL! And starving is not a nice death ;)

P.S. It's really unbelievablewhat Ux and Romy have built here. The work is large and whith countless scenes and completely different stories. My photos show less than 10% of all. So much fun and adventure you'll rarely find on asingle Sim! And yet so beautiful,so surprising, so exciting!The installation is open throughout February. Be prepared for morethan only one hour of fun!

Home of the 'Order of Perception'

HarterFall haspleasure in exploiting the possibilities of SLand seems to make the impossiblereal in SL. Ialways suspected his builds as a little bit extraterrestrial,but now I can be sure. He has not only allowedaliens to build a temple on his place atLEA 16, no he actively helpedthem. Now inhabit some monks of the "Order of Perception" a cathedral and plan to open every weekanother portal where we can have a look intoother universes whichbreak the laws of nature. The first portal leads us to the universe of Q-937X1"The Upend", home of the monks of the OrderWunduguan.

I must admit, theymanage to fascinate us earthlings. The MadPeateam is also infectedand just installed a smallhunt that we visitorshave even more fun. And I can feel it already,I have to go back next week and discoverthe next universe. I am sure they will get all of us. What are their plans???

Ihave written several times about shows at Pirats. The patrons, Merlina Rokocoko (NathalieGobe rl), NewbabZsigmond (Jean-Marc Larroque), ErinLoup (Elie Maurice)and Etoile 16Food (Dominique Vernageau)have helped many artiststo settle in SL.

By raising the tier for non-profit sims as wellthe survival Pirats is now in danger. Inquiries at Linden Labremained unanswered for months.Therefore a rescue campaign has now been launched. Youcan help by donating Pirats here. Such eventhas already savedBryn Oh's Immersiva.

But it happensmuch more. Manyfamous artists have donated works for charity salesfrom today until Sunday. There are great 2D and 3D works with partly very reasonable prices andit is reallyworth a visit. Ofcourse, artists are still welcometo contribute works. You make me real - Nybbles

A nybble consists of4 bits and 2 nybbles make a byte.Pinkpink Sorbet used in the installation “Lots of Nybbles” 4textures and 4 scripts. The installation consists of different textures of black /white stripes that move minimally. Due to the pixels of the screen this results in fascinating moiré effects.Even if you stand still, everything is inmotion. This is even more whenone moves. In thecenter of the work are scattered around large keyboard buttons to sit on. The slightrotation produces constantlynew patterns that even change by zooming with thecamera.

Slightly Weird: Sopor aEternum

Once again I found a nice sim which is well built and is wonderful to explore. Sopor aEternum has a TP system that leads to 8 destinations, but there is much more to see.

All looks a bit dark and spooky. Especially as a couple or with friends you can test several unusual places and pose balls. You can dance, cuddle, predict and enjoy the madness. In the church a couple tried to get me in the confessional.

Sopor aEternum offers a lot to do and to hang around. Definitely worth more than one visit.

Sneak Preview: Shellina's Apocalypse 2012

2012 is again one of the years with a predicted end of the world. I already have survived some previous "apocalypses" and think this time it will not be different. But there are also every time people who firmly believe it. And we have all fear of lost and destruction.

With this topic deals shellina Winkler’s work "Apocalypse 2012 - Who's Afraid of the End of the World" A first trend for 2012 is already obvious: colors are gone. Shellina works in black / white. The installation shows high-rise buildings under an explosion and people are falling and/or flying high. Everything is kind of blurred from near even more as from distance. I feel the confusion. The scene in monochrome colors reminds me of photos after the collapse of the Twin Towers. All the chaos and the gray from dust.

Is this the end? The quote by HG Wells in the installation shows that shellina has a different view: “It is possible to believe that all the past is but the beginning of the beginning and that all that is and has been but the twilight of the dawn. It is possible to believe that all the human mind has ever accomplished is but the dream of the awakening.”

There will always be optimists and pessimists. If shellina only brings one pessimist to think, her work has paid off!

Nice New Game: Dranopia Quest

Well-made games are not often to find in SL and as you know, I am always on the lookout. One has just opened. The rules are simple and clearly displayed on the boards.

Rez and wear a HUD and rez a flying dragon from the egg in the center of the landing spot. Jump on it and off you go.

Pass the gate and catch 4 minutes long the floating diamonds by flying through. The HUD counts the points.

Avoid the flying islands; some of them look pretty bad. It threatens loss of points.

From the starting point you can always start again. The best gamers have the chance to win prizes.

With this conversation yesterday at the opening almost all is said about the new installations by Maya Paris. All is just a huge, crazy fun! But let me start from the beginning. It is an installation about Josephine Baker, called the Black Venus. She was the first African American who had worldwide success in show business. A really impressing person, which also was a good business women and her whole life long active against suppression and racism. Almost everyone still knows her Banana Dance. Maya’s work uses the Art Deco style of that time and the bananas are slightly more than decent erotic allusions.
At the landing point you get a Hud which leads to music and information about Josephine and in the discs you have a choice of 7 different and totally crazy avatars. Here you see 3 of them dancing:

In the large dip of banana cream you get dance animations. The bar offers drinks.

All parts of the installation are interactive, try them. Unbelievable, what happens. For maximum effects, set the viewer at least on medium and raise particles up.

The Charm of the 70ies

There are days where you come online, and no friend is around. What to do? MadPea offers also single-players fun and amusement. A great example is the Escape Room near the bingo game. Inconspicuous from the outside, it reveals inside its full beauty! * hehe *

Seventies design at its finest: Wallpaper with huge eyes, lava lamp, Kiss poster, record player ... everything there! But once if you're in, you will notice that you cannot get out there. Now the game starts! On top of the computer you get on click a HUD.

Wear it and start to collect objects. In the chat you'll get hints how use the objects once you pick them up. Click in the objects in the HUD to make use of them. With a little patience, it is not that difficult to get out. Escape Room offers a single player real fun. It took me about 40 minutes; experienced players will succeed faster.

Visitors get costumes at the landing point

Some blog posts are written within minutes, some are circling in my head for days and days. This is one of those. The Magic Flute by Mozart is not only his most successful opera, but one of the most fequently played worldwide. It accompanied me since my childhood and I probably know too much about it. So much could be said, but what is important for you to give you an idea about Giovanna Cerise’s work?

It took Giovanna more than one year of preparatory work. Understandable; the plot is convoluted, complex, illogical and with many twists. What is it about? It's about couples in love and war, power plays and the way of personal growth. So, somehow about the whole life…

I think only we silly Germans distinguish between serious and popular music. Of course, Mozart is considered as to be one of the serious and therefore all works are expected to have a deep and serious meaning. But do they really have? Although he made big money, Mozart was at that time in financial problems and Schikaneder, the librettist, had to run a successful theater. This opera was written within a few months. Is that enough time to write a deep and thoughtful work? I think, the two just wanted to write a hit, took a mixture of themes of their personal interest where everyone could identify themselves somehow, corresponding to the Zeitgeist and fashion trend. A bit like Disney movies nowadays. A continuous and understandable story was obviously of minor significance. And they've done so extraordinary well that until today everyone, from old to young, watch this opera with great pleasure. Not to forget the wonderful music and the many "hits" that emerged from the opera. A real all time bestseller of entertainment!

The opera was interpreted quite differently, politically revolutionary, conservative politically, psychologically and in the spirit of the age of Enlightenment and Freemasonry. Giovanna Cerise has chosen the last ones, which is for me the most important and interesting. It is about the way of personal growth trough standing tests as in the rituals of Freemasonery. Mozart and Schikaneder both has been Freemasons. It was a brotherhood and as everything revolutionary in the Aera of Elightment was meant just to be for men.The lodges of freemasonery played an important role as meeting circles of intelectuals to share the new ideas. Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité (Liberty, Equality, Fraternity) was the leitmotif of the French revolution which spread all over Europe. Do you know that Olympe de Gouges lost her life in the French revolution because she expected Fraternité (brotherhood) as to be meant as well for women? Mozart and Schikaneder didn't care and let Tamino together with his love Pamina enter the temple.

And just as Giovanna has focused to follow this one theme, she has focused her installation on almost sketches. It displays the stations of the opera and the tests of maturity, discretion and perseverance. But even if Giovanna focuses on the essential, it is a hard way; easy to lose orientation or to fall. But we are in SL and you are allowed to fly;) Finally you end up as the heroes in the temple of Isis and Osiris, incorporated to the circle of the wise. At each station you can click on musical notes and hear quotations from the opera. Please set your viewer for maximum enjoyment at least on medium or raise up particles.

I think It’s time for me to see the beautiful opera again. Thank you, Giovanna!

At Musei di Roma opened a new installation by Merlino Mayo:

In Rome there was an exhibition of contemporary Chinese artists. Merlino has selected 12 works of them and reconstructed for SL in 3d. Merlino built with great love and respect for the works and the result is fascinating. One can dive into the works and they feel very different as just seeing. It's absolutely worth visiting. It was a pleasure to walk through the entire installation. Bravissimo Merlino! That's how art in SL turns to an immersive experience!

Great Life Event Today!

Be prepared for a sensational event. The master of particles in SL, Tyrehl Byk and the master of electronic music in SL, Ultraviolet Alter are celebrating a live event to say goodbye to the MadPea sim. While MadPea is creating new fun and adventures on the remaining 3 sims, Madpea was already empty and gave this great opportunity.

Tyrehl is an outstanding creator of particle effects. His former shows “Phantasmagoria” and “Catharsis” has been a huge success. Sasun Steinbeck said about Catharsis: "This is by far one of the coolest things I have *ever* seen in SL... and I've seen a lot!" And Rebeca Bashly commented: "This is just brilliant, i have never seen such thing here! it was super! that camera control thing is awesome!" Tyrehl also did live shows before, here is a video:

Ultraviolet is a universal gifted artist. In Second Life, she is Builder and Composer. Her live performances of electronic music have a huge fan group in Second Life.

Pol Jarvinen said about her music: “Listening to Ultra's music, it's like sitting by the ocean and listening to wave after wave gently lapping up on the beach. Because it goes "nowhere", you stay where you are and you are transported to a state of peace and timelessness. Within minutes of first hearing her music you realize that you are hearing a live show of incredible beauty and warmth.” Sadly she never records her performances, but if you want to get an idea, I recommend visiting the installation “Art Planet” by Betty Tureaud. The sounds are composed by Ultraviolet especially for this work.

This is the first cooperation of these outstanding artists and we are looking forward to an event that people will talk about for a long time. Seats are strictly limited, so make sure to appear on time.

The War of Life

So much is currently happening in SL, that it is hard to take note of all important events. Luckily Harter Fall has drawn my attention to a new opening at LEA, I would have otherwise missed. Yooma Mayo shows the first full sim work "under the Sky".

And it scurries and swarms under the sky… You see many sorts of insects and plants. They are built wonderfully tender and richly detailed. At first glance an idyllic scenery. But the more you look the more you see that there is actually a silent war. The war of survival!

Fascinating, beautiful and worth seeing!

It will be loud – it will be fun. Drum is a group of high class live performers well known as creators of beautiful rhythms. The DRUM group has collaborated to create the unique sounds, drums, and animations.

The Show of DRUM presents 9 different cultures of drumming from all over the world: Japanese, Native American, African, Latin, Indian, Mallets, Stomp Wall. The team plays besides that a special set of Rusty Drums. DRUM does not use pre-recorded music, so each show will be unique.

Turquoise is the New Black!

I'm not a fashion blogger. But with the fashion of Trill Zapatero I do always an exception. I love the casual bohemian style of BoHo HoBo and the ethnic-inspired fashion of Meena. All for really good prices! Trills fashion is not only fantastic colorful and super good textured, but over all it is for a good cause. The Sim is runned by a sponsor and all turnovers are proceeded completely to RAWA, the Afghan women's organization. So shop ‘til you drop!

Sneak Preview: ...Things are More Shades of Grey

'Not Everything Is Plain Black & White' is the name of the new whole sim work of Fuschia Nightfire. So true! How nice it would be if the world were so simple.

At the landing point first you have to make your choice of a black, grey or white avatar. I have chosen a black one and modified it a bit. In the white area outside there is only one hole and I jumped in. Be prepared for a journey through a monochrome world whith all possible shades of gray. You will see a mixture of old and new works. I especially liked the textures of the sim.

Fuschia had technical problems with terraforming and is therefore late with building. My pictures are the current state of her work, it still can change by tomorrow.

New Artist at Pirats Market Place

Pirats is always good for an interesting choice of artists. Yesterday reopened the Market Place Art Gallery with Aneli Abeyante, AmandaT Tamatzui, Briawinde Magic and a new name: HallelujahJones.

The pictures of Hallelujah attracted me strongly. They are beautiful, but also scary and disturbing. I could not stop looking at them.

It is the beginning of an exciting and as always colorful travel with a total of 13 stations, which promise some surprises. Quan Lavender: Hi Lorin, nice to meet you. You will host the event. Tell me a bit about the history.
Lorin Tone: The original was hosted by florenze Kerensky and Barney Boomslang for about 6 years, and was a very popular weekly event. Many fine builders attended showing a wide array of fun stuff.
Quan Lavender: Where was it held and why did it came to an end?
Lorin Tone: The first one was held at various locations over the years. florenze and Barney had to end it because they've been busy with RL stuff. Many people were devastated that it came to an end, so we're going to try to bring a new one back.
Quan Lavender: So you convinced Kiana now to held it at MadPea?
Lorin Tone: Well, Bobbi was doing a similar show and tell, but I asked Kiana for permission to try it the way flo and Barney did it. So we're going to try it today!
Quan Lavender: I am looking forward to it! Do you know already some who plan to take part?
Lorin Tone: flo and Barney were wonderful hosts, I will try to make ours as enjoyable as theirs was. I know that some regulars from the old Show and Tell will attend today, but don't know who will show until they all sign up. Fortunately, Judi Newall will be assisting me today. Inventor Alchemy and Xon Halostar have suggested that they might show some new things, we'll see

"Show and Tell" is back!

MadPea, presented by Lorin Tone brings a tradition back to life. "Show and Tell" has been a popular event for almost 7 years. MadPea generously host the event now and donated 1000 Linden for the prizes. The pot can be increased significantly by visitor donations. Each participant will receive guaranteed 100 Linden, the rest will be distributed to the winners. Each participant has an area of 25x25m available for the builds and an hour to present and comment the work. We think the board will fill up pretty quickly, so builders are recommended to show up early.

Frao Ra @ Mysterious Wave

In my second travelogue I have presented Mysterious Wave for the first time. Since then it has changed completely. The delicate and dynamic sculptures of Cherry Manga have a unique appeal. The Sim looks like a fairy tale has become fantasy-world.

For a month are monochrome sculptures of Frao Ra displayed on Mysterious Wave. I think they are really great and fit nicely into the fairy environment. You can sit on the flying bubbles, watch the works and dream along.

Are you part of the 70%? - Will Second Life survive?

I am not one of those who blame Linden Lab for all what is going wrong in SL. As software provider they have done a great and revolutionary job. In my first 2 blog posts about the fun of travelling in SL, I wrote about lousy performance of shop owners and sim owners in SL. But more and more I see Linden Lab acting like a dying company as I sadly had to see more than once in RL. Behind such sceneries are often owners who lost their believe or/and financial force.

Today is my second Birthday in SL. I am very young here. Much has been written on the subject SL and many people know much more about all than I do. Please correct me if I write false facts. The subject is so vast and complex. With a look at my blog you can see, that I am a passionate resident. But a company only will survive if it makes money, so I'll try a view on the subject from the side of marketing. Be ready for some provoking words:

Why SL failed

A group of visionary software designers who had no clue about marketing offered a product to marketing experts with had no clue of 3D software. Software developers and marketing people are living in two worlds. Second Life is the result of a huge vision. A virtual world without borders! Reaching each customer at home! With this claim met Second Life the world economy. I remember well as this idea was presented to me by the Internet agency. A lot of companies have taken the chance. They have jumped on the hype without exactly knowing what to expect and it had to be a failure. Why? Because a maximum number of 50 avatars on a sim is a number of simultaneously present customers which is much to low for companies in the consumer market. In addition to this 10 years ago, the quality of rendering and the pace of the Internet was much to low. This vision of a second economic life was a mistake from the beginning due to the technical possibilities.

What I don’t understand at all, is why LL with its original vision of SL does not provide economic data of sales to merchants and the sims owner no visitor statistics. That would have been the minimum requirements, which could also be easily programmed. Professionalism in market requirements was absent in the whole project from beginning of SL and has not improved so far.

This vision has burst and nothing new took its place, although today much looks so much better. And THAT is the biggest problem of Linden Lab. Is there any vision? Check out the website of LL.

Why SL yet so far survived

Linden Lab failed to conquer the whole world. But it has (not planned) well established in some market niches, like the creative’s and at a certain user group, which I will try to define: 35 or older, above average force of imagination and aware that they cannot fulfill all dreams in their real life. Second Life offers the opportunity to slip into an additional live without the constraints of pre-rolls.

And SL succeed with such perfection that we, the residents, LOVE our 2nd life! Marketing experts say today that brands more and more lose importance in the market Successful companies of the future need enthusiastic customers who love the product, a Lovemark! Folks, YOU are the greatest asset of LL and they do not even understand. At my beginning, I was wondering why SL does not publish market data. I think now, there is a simple explanation. The described average user does not fit in today's marketing goals. The user are simply too old to be interesting for advertising and it would show that SL is a niche product. And I believe that exactly this is the great capital of SL. Well occupied niches are stable markets and customers over 35 have more money and are much more loyal customers.

The great problem is that obviously not a single decision maker of LL is a passionate resident itself. Have you ever met a Linden inworld? Many believe that a blogger has a close relationship with Linden. People like me advertise day by day for the product Second Life. No, my dear friends, they do not even take notice of my existence. I have to find out on my own, what is new and interesting in SL. I attendet last year several events of great importance for the Second Life community. NOT ONE has been visited by a Linden. So, they do not understand at all why we are here. It does not matter whether we have paid or free accounts. The money comes to SL through dealers and rent.

Sorry, but a company that does not know the customers and does not hold contact will die sooner or later.

Why SL is no longer growing

Linden Lab seems to believe that SL is based on the product life cycle stage of the cash cow. It has stable profits, but lose in the near future more and more market share. Therefore, it is invested only a little and half-heartedly. In the medium term SL will be replaced by the new products which has been already announced. This strategy arises from the grandiose misunderstanding of the nature of use and market opportunities of Second Life. Second Life as virtual platform does not underly a product life circle. There are niches in the market for which SL could be quite interesting, like smaller architectural companies, designers, interior designers, e-learning... I am convinced that there lies a huge potential for growth. Go for it!

But additional we have a problem with the viewer and the avatars. Do not get me wrong. It is good and I would not give up a single function! But even after two years I still do not know everything. We need customized, easy viewers with avatars that are simple for certain applications and which allow a satisfactory performance for the desired occupation without learning. And that may have a small price. So please create a tour viewer, event viewer, visitor viewer, e-Learning Viewer, a gamer viewer, a sex viewer with penis.... Do not laugh! Sex is also a major industry in SL. And it could certainly used for good PR, namely by applying the good protection of children. The more it would be pointed out, the more it would heat up to the fantasies of what's happening behind the virtual walls and attract visitors.

If SL wants to earn more money, it needs more visitors. They come through good marketing, media coverage and multipliers which talk and write good about SL. So to raise the tier for edu sims was the most stupid and short-sighted of LL. These are the Sims, which gain positive coverage. Of course there is not making money there, but also these residents want to look good and so on and spend money for it.

Sorry, but who do not know why and how customers use the product will perish!

Why SL supports the arts

Many believe that LL shows his big heart for the arts with the more than 20 LEA sims. I say no. Inside is an entirely different reason. The artists are the actual beta-testers of the software. Few want to believe it, but not even one of the Linden knows how to work properly with mesh. They expect the artists to explore the possibilities now as unpaid staff. And they are the ones who improve the quality of buildings, textures, Windlight settings, and ... and. ... and. The artists work thus influence and enhances the daily life of all residents more than they can imagine.

And therefore it is a scandal that Bryn Oh's Immersiva and Kiana Writer's MadPea get no support from LL after the loss of Dusan Writer as patron. Both are tireless working in SL, are diligent and both created brands, one in the art and one for games. Actually they are unpaid and therefore to some extent exploited staff of SL. But the Lindens probably do not even understand it, because they do not know the whole world from inside. Thanks to the huge marketing mistakes by LL it is still hardly possible to live from work in SL even with the hardest efforts. I understand that not all artists can be supported. Contracting a good choice of them as free staff paid with Linden Dollar would be a mutually acceptable and discreet solution.

And another topic: Musicians and writers need more than 20 oder 50 visitors at events. The maximum number of avatars must be increased dramatically. And it must be easy possible to stream live videos out of SL.

Artists and LL at the end have the same goal: Public awareness! Why is there no cooperation in professional PR? Where is the the PR for LEA in RL at all???

Sorry, but who sees only his own gain and does not create win / win situations, will fail at the end.

Has SL a future?

Many hope for the new CEO Rod Humble. I do not. He had success with gaming platforms. The real magic of SL he most likely does not understand. I see in games a great source of income and a first destination for residents. But only if they will be passed to the real SL! And there I have my doubts. And are the owners willing to do the desired investments? There I have my doubts too.

There is so much to do and discover in SL. But what LL is doing to make residents aware of it? Almost nothing. Only in the Destination Guide, which is more than lousy edited. If you want to get in there, just invest in a good photo and a nice text and you will be listet. That the places unexamined get in there, I have shown in this example. I is disastrous for noobs, because they need to get started a guided performance. I imagine games with a learning effect over the possibilities of SL, where there is a chance to earn Linden. Zynga is apparently very successful with it.

There are so many good things in SL that LL still has a small chance of survival if they improve quickly and effectively their catastrophic marketing performance. I think it more likely that similar to the “Rigged Mesh Case” one day the residents will be called, to operate SL on their own. That would even include the opportunity to test new social models. After all, would we have another chance?

What if we all were suddenly homeless? Quasi died? An important part of your life just gone? What a dreadful vision!

So, that is my first aid rescue plan for Linden Lab:

1. Understand and define Second Life from inside
2. Create a vision and publish it
3. Identify and fill market niches in a professional way
4. Offer simple viewers and sims for Noobs to guarantee satisfying visits at the beginning
5. Offer games with learning effect and the chance to win Linden for noobs
6. Increase the maximum number of avatars on Sims
7. Publish user profiles, economic and traffic data
8. Offer simple customized viewers for specific requirements
9. Offer business evaluations for sim and shop owners
10. Offer live video-streams out of SL
11. Creat a good sim guide
12. Negotiate with social networks to have avatars accepted as especially marked members

Playing Bingo

Do you also know Bingo only from movies? I did until last week. But Second Life makes everything possible. MadPea runs daily the popular game and I discovered, it's great fun. Click on the sign and get a folder with the game card as HUD and a hat to put on. The host starts the game and similar to a lottery it spits out randomly numbers. The goal is, to get horizontally, vertically or diagonally a line of numbers. Who is getting it first, wins the donated prize from the pot and the cards automatically reset for the next round. You must not to be concerned to miss a number, because the HUD is getting them automatically.

Therefore, all players are relaxed and have fun chatting.No wonder that Bingo is so well visited. I will definitely go again.

Can you remember Super Mario Land? I'm not a gamer, but in the 90's I was addicted for a short while to this Nintendo 2D play. The peculiar walls, flying islands, the circulating coins… All that you can also play with your avatar as Mario at the sim Electrobites.

At the landing point you find a tool for a little practice. You can play and become fit for the adventure. There are two starting points.

I've never been good at jumping and I have not come very far. Maybe it's better to play with friends. But it was funny and had a nice memory at the old Nintendo games. Now I need a Mario avatar.

I haveto thank Rose Borchovski. When FreeWeeLing announced for the January UWA contest self-portraits,I was not really interested. Probably because when Iwas a child, I found the self-portraitsin the galleries always terribly boring. I have pictures in my mind, where vain artistsattempt to look interesting by carefullyarranged accessories. But then Rose yesterdaysent a picture not with a baby as usual, but with an elder woman:Angry Beth. Thatmade me curious. Rose has not represented her inthe best light, but showed a side of her that - if even - only know a few and no one likes to show. Shelooks bad-tempered, is fallingand reaches out her hand. Especially in such situations we need help. But will someone understand and be there?

Sneak Preview: Between Orient and Occident

In the January UWA Sky Sim Series 3 Western artists are presenting works about one theme very different ways.

Louly Loon approaches the subject by going to the Far East with the opera Madame Butterfly. When it was written in 1904 by Puccini, Japan was for Europeans even much further away and stranger than nowadays. It was more a fairy tale than reality.

Louly has implemented the three acts of the opera into 3 scenes. Wonderfully delicate structures are turning the theatrical scenery into a European dream of a distant and strange Japan. I'm totally enchanted!

ChapTer Kronfeld made his way on the search and lets us share his artistic process. Obviously he was in danger to get lost in it. He must have been in between on the way to give up. The well done build contains some surprises on the way. Did he find an answer? The last scene is a labyrinth without exit.

ChapTer says on this: “The journey has to remain the reward and not a static end point. We all have to care and to make an effort continuously in approaching step by step the culturally different and new.”

Asmita Duranjaya is the initiator of the project and I find her work closest to my personal experience. She has pointed out some important fields of mutual impingement and presents them in a visually appealing way: trade, architecture, meditation, etc. The exhibition is partly interactive. It was fun to follow. You can get a HUD with additional information and a puzzle with the chance to gain a gift. I think the theme could be further expanded. I my mind came spontaneously: Arabic numbers, the Arabian influence on Western medicine, rice, noodles and porcelain.

I met Asmita yesterday and quiet surprised I had to hear from her that I do "not pay tribute to her importance in the art world of SL” in my blog and that I am "neither able nor in the position to judge her art”. My immediate reaction was not to write about her work. But after some thinking I changed my mind.

I believe one should see the work of an artist separated from personally issues. I do not make blog posts just out of friendship and vice versa I should not ignore a good work, just because the artist insulted me and I don’t like this person.

OMG - Last Show of Fiona Leitner!

Yesterday I visited Betty Tureaud on her LEA parcel ( more about it to come in a future blog post) when Fiona Leitner bumped in. Although we had fun dancing, I had to digest a shock. Fiona decided to leave SL as artist and to concentrate on RL. That is a great loss for us. Today opens her last show in Second Life.

The Morbid Charme of an Abandoned Fun Park

The "Culture"– Park Berlinwas the only fun parkin the GDR. In myWestern eyes it had a morbid charm.After the Fall the business has beencontinued until 2001. Since then the place is in decay. Squonk Levenque has brilliantly captured the slightly creepy mood of decline in his Treptower Park, which is actually the name of the RL adjoining nature park. Therefore I mixed RL photos with some of the sim. Look around and enjoy, some rides are stillworking ;)

During my visit I'veobviously chased away some homeless. The Meeroos still stuck inthe grill. I've tried a piece. Not bad!Now I know at least that they can be useful.

Sneak Preview: ARTÉE’s LAST VALSE

Artée (Artistide Despres) received last year for the beautiful and sophisticated scripted music instruments great attention and won quite a few prizes. When it was clear that she would get a full sim at LEA, they should be merged into an "orchestra". So now we can enjoy these works all together on LEA6. The small miracles interact partially with the SL wind and it's a joy to watch them and enjoy the sounds.

But ...

In what kind of surrounding are the works? Scattered urban environments between water and everywhere fly large and small marine animals and insects. The glass dome above the sensitive instruments is breaking. It came to my mind that animals in still life’s are meant as a symbol of decay. But these critters are moving, it is almost an invasion. Artée stands alone in between and fights with a pole. It is clear that this fight hardly could be won. I got strong compassion seeing this and now understood the title of the work: 'Where I found my Ivory Tower Surrounded by a Huxleyan World, Which Turned out to be an Orwellian World'

Even if last year was a good one for Artée, so much happened in the world: Fukushima, Occupy Wall Street, the failure of the UN Climate Conference and so on. This touches an artist of course and penetrates the creative work. Artée said on that: "The world is on the edge."

Nice And Cool Hunt Only A Few Days More!

Here is real highlight! The last days of a beautiful and challenging hunt.. "The Peatonville Mystery" is a gridwide hunt that was built by MadPea in collaboration with P4NDOR4 Quintessa in the look of P4NDDOR4's wonderful, gloomy sim Pandemonium.

You have to wear a hud and look for small pieces of paper. They give you a link to shops where you have to find artefacts.

As soon as you find them you receive immediately a gift. The game runs until January 6. For the HUD you had to pay a fee of 100 Linden. For the last days, CEO Kiana Writer generously sent the HUD for free to the group members. Join the MadPea group and check the notices. Happy hunting!

So much information, but where is the TP?

Referring to this blog post, I already wrote about bad shopping experience in Second Life. That so many havelittle desire to travel is certainly also a result of the myriad of badly plannedand ill-designed sims. Thisis my topic today.

Iam aware that most sim owners are laymen who fulfill a dream of their youthhere. Therefore there are e.g. too much dancing and sex clubs in SL. Onceto be as cool as an owner of a disco or a sex club... ;) Butwhatever you intend, without visitors it's not fun. And your visitors vote mercilessly with their feet. The end of all is oftenpredictable.

Rules and threats...but no help

Inearly November such a project made it with a great photo into the Editor Picks:"Labyrinths de Mythos", a RP and combat sim. Ofcourse I went there and landed ... in a shopping area. But I wasimmediately spammed with 3 endless note cards. I counted thewords: I should read 7271 words! Ifthat was not enough, it contained another 5 note cards. Guess what I've read! Iam an experienced traveler, but had to look around a while until I found wherethere was a visitor-tag and the TP. I landed on the residents sim, which I hadto pass through until I finally found the RP sim. Ofcourse, no hint or sign was there and my mood was already pretty much down. ThereI had to look again, until I could TP to other places and finally found the greatscene from the image in the Editor’s Picks. UnfortunatelyI made no photos in my anger. Ialready had in mind to show this sim as an example how guaranteed failures are produced.Andwhen I came back now for this article, the more beautiful 2. sim wasalready abandoned. So, thepredicted end is obviously on its way.

Especiallytragic is that such a sim was in the Editor Picks. Manynoobs were wandering around on my first visit there, as with all Editor's Picksand had no clue what to do. After thisexperience guaranteed 100% never logged back into SL. But regarding this topic, more to come nexttime..

Here are my wishesto sim owners:

- Defineyour desired visitors and offer them what they want.

- Makea concept and ask yourself whether it is explainable in a single sentence.

- Thinkabout how the guests understand without many words what is going on.

- Giveme a SHORT note card with the most important rules and instructions how to moveon.

- Giveme a visitor's tag, I do not want to participate immediately the RP.

- Ifcertain outfits are desired, offer freebies. It does not matter ifthey do not look so great. The sooner I visit your shops.

- Thinkabout how you make the visit of guests so exciting that they become interestedin the RP. For those interested, offer detailed note cards.

- Asknot only your close friends for honest opinions.

- Do notconstantly change your concept completely just because it does not workimmediately. Goodthings take time and it scares your already gained fans. Slight changes are ok.

- If itdoes not run, don’t blame the stupid world which does not appreciate your geniuswork, but understand that you have done mistakes.

- If you think at the end that you have done all just for your own fun and SL is just a game anyway, then please do not complain if no one is playing along with you.

A Historical Walk With Silent Movie

HistoricalPlaces in SL have their owncharm. The Berlin1920project I have introduced to you before. But there is anotherplace with historic Berlin: The Scheunenviertel. Notso big, but nicely done and worth a nice New Years walk. A highlight is the Münz-Lichtspiele,a silent movie theater. Currently,they show the oldestfilm version of Alice in Wonderlandfrom 1903. Cecil Hepworthmade the longest movie that wasever done so far and it is almost completely preserved. Unbelievable 8 minutes long is the movie ;)

Shopping With a Cold

These days are hard days. Poor BK Ansar had to go shopping although he has a bad cold. So he went quick in his pyjama and his cool bunny slippers. I could not resist and took a photo. Hopefully I am not infected now. If you happen to meet him pass him a new tissue.

Wonderful Place to Explore: The Looking Glass

TheLooking Glass is a poetic dreamworld that invites you to explore. Alone the halfdestroyed theater with the realistic textures is really worthseeing. In the pretty townyou can descendinto the sewers.

They are so much branched that youcan get lost in it. Hidden outputs lead tothe other areas of the sim. Iparticularly like the enchanted forest.Everywhere are beautiful places to stay and isworth more than one visit.

Currently there are two other reasons to go there. At the side of the theater, there is a Christmas tree with gifts from various shops.

The Looking Glass has been build by Sharni Azalee and Marcus Inkpen. Marcus also has been taken part of The Path.

Travel Adventure at LEA

On all the newLEA sims happens alot and it's fun to look aroundthere. There will be plenty to blog inthe near future. Today I came across the name of Charlotte Bartlett and was immediately curious. She builds incrediblybeautiful houses with interior forincredibly low prices. I really felt in love with thisone. It is already available inthe Marketplace or inworld.

On the table there is a TP to an adventuretrip, which ends up back in front of the house. Youwill enjoy it!
